Stories in the stones
Plans for Nan Hua Temple grew out of an exchange in 1991 between Master Hsing Yun and the local municipal team. In 1992, the Bronkhorstspruit City Council donated land, and Fo Guang Shan assigned Venerable Huei Li to oversee construction. Work began in October of that year. A Buddhist college, guesthouse, assembly hall, and meditation center were built in subsequent years. The main hall, with its yellow roof, was completed in 2005. Guided by the principle of Humanistic Buddhism, the temple promotes education, culture, and charity, and provides African monastics with space for study and practice.
